Ritual Britain

Ritual Britain, a show by Ben Edge and Simon Costin, has recently wrapped up it’s three week long stay in London’s Crypt Gallery, in case you weren’t able to make it down here’s some images and a short round up of what was on display.

The exhibition was a mixture of original works by artist Ben Edge, and display of folkloric artefacts collected by mystic polymath Simon Costin.

The majority of Ben’s work on show were paintings, which document various customs and rituals that are alive and well today, spread all over Britain. Accompanying this is a documentary that Ben has recently finished ‘Frontline Folklore; a collection of video recordings of many of these same customs that Ben has captured first hand on his relentlessly thorough folk tour. Simon Costin runs both the Museum of Folklore (a collection of objects and ephemera, that currently have no permanent home), and the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in Boscastle, Cornwall. His contributions to the display were pieces from his amazing collection, masks, costumes, archive video and objects.

Congratulations Ben and Simon, great exhibition and over 10,000 visitors, a lot of strange folk out there.
